Letter to the Club from Fire Marshal of Southaven, Mississippi

to the Club after staging 4th of July Show in 2003

In conjunction with J&M Displays of Yarmouth, Iowa the Stumptown Shooters

staged the 4th of July Celebration in Southaven, MS in 2003.

While there, we did "the thing that we do" and gave the local Fire Marshal some food for thought in

the area of PGII Certification and F.E.S.T education and how to setup and fire a display.

The show was great (thanks to Marc Thannert of J&M for the Choreography).

It was manually fired to the cues accompanying the soundtrack.

Letter to the Club from F.E.S.T to the Club

for helping with the September 2004 Class

The Stumptown Shooters are proud to be associated with this Organization. F.E.S.T promotes the

Safety of the Public and the Display Shooters through education aimed at the AHJ

(Authority Having Jurisdiction). We believe this directly compliments our

PGI Certification Classes in a common goal to promote overall safety.

It further promotes the effort to bring both "sides" together to work as a team to insure a safe show

which is consistent in it's execution by getting all AHJs on the "Same Page" in what to look for, how

to get a feel for the qualifications of the Lead Shooter's expertise and many other areas.

Members of the Club Donate time and equipment to help F.E.S.T

make this happen and applaud their efforts.

NFPA Calls for Elimination of Codes for Retail Sales of Consumer Fireworks in order to Call for a

BAN on ALL CONSUMER FIREWORKS

Not content with their unbridled attacks on All things Consumer Fireworks, now the NFPA is using one of its own reports as an excuse to abandon NFPA 1124 Chapter 7.

If they are allowed to pursue this course, the Technical Committee (comprised of Fireworks Experts from the field_will be unable to write codes pertaining to ANY RETAIL FIREWORKS VENDORS!

While this may sound like a 'victory' for the Hobbyist and for Consumer Retail Vendors, read this to see why it is NOT WHAT WE WANT and How it WILL Lead to the total Banning of Consumer Fireworks in the United States.

NFPA Calls for Ban on ALL CONSUMER FIREWORKS

This OUTRAGEOUSLY ERRONEOUS ARTICLE written by Margie Coloian, Public Affairs Officer

of the NFPA was run in the September/October Issue of the NFPA Newsletter

and then subsequently "Modified" in November 2004.

It immediately drew fire from a myriad of groups and individuals.

From calling a 9" Mortar Shell a "Consumer Firework" to the grossly misleading statement that

"Each year, Fireworks Kill and Maim Thousands of adults and children."

This article missed the mark by not just miles but by light years.

It has to be read to be believed.

Response to NFPA Call to Ban All Consumer Fireworks 11-04

Normally, we applaud the efforts of the NFPA in their continuing efforts to promote the

safe use of fireworks and in the regulations which promote the safe use of them.

Sometimes however, there comes along someone who just doesn't understand that it's not the

Fireworks which cause the harm, it's the UNSAFE USE of the Fireworks which causes harm.

This Open Letter sent to the NFPA refutes one the most outlandish, one-sided and

untrue articles we have ever seen come out of any source

(having this come from the NFPA however made it much worse!)

Although they have never publicly (or privately) responded to the torrent of criticism that was

heaped upon them from all sides as a result of this "Call for a ban", we hope they

have simply "buried it" as agencies are apt to do when they are in the wrong.

The good news is that  we have not heard any more from them on it (yet).

Response to CPSC Call to Ban Chemical Sales December 2004

This action against Chemical Supplier FireFox, Inc. will have far-reaching consequences if

successful. The Hobby Fireworks & Pyrotechnics Community is banding together in fighting this

action which will (if successful) result in the elimination of Hobby Fireworks and severely damage

the ability of Display Companies, Clubs like ours and Individuals to have Displays of any kind.

We feel this issue to be of the UTMOST IMPORTANCE and urge everyone to read this and help the

fight by Writing Letters to your Congress Person and by Contributing to the Chemical Defense Fund

which is gearing up for the fight against this Unconstitutional attack on the

Civil Liberties of the people in the Pyrotechnic Community.

Michigan Fatality Assessment & Control Evaluation Report

(MIFACE)

Fireworks Fatality of a Shooter in Michigan.

Members of Stumptown aided MIFACE in the research into what went wrong and put

together suggestions in how to avoid situations like this in the future.

This report is a classic example of just how many things can and do go wrong on a

shoot site when safety becomes anything less than the number one concern.

This fatality was 100% avoidable. Though Lead Shooter (the victim) was experienced,

he and many others involved should have done things differently.

We highly recommend that Shooters of all experience levels read

this report and re-evaluate your own safety practices.

A Case of Groundwater Contamination

due to Fireworks Shows in Small Town USA

In 2003, the EPA Declared the First Ever case of Groundwater Contamination in the US to be caused by the Hometown Fireworks Display in Hills, IA.

Despite having not one shred of concrete proof to support their claim, they stated flatly and unequivocally that the Hills Fireworks Display was directly responsible for contaminating the sand-point wells there.

The Link below is to a report submitted to the City Of Hills researched and written by one Stumptown member who disputes this claim and offers a common-sense alternative for their explanation of the contamination.

AND SPEAKING OF CONTAMINATION BY FIREWORKS....

WOW!

Check out how we are all exposed to the "Deadly Fallout"

of Fireworks which "Dumps TONS" of

Heavy Metal Pollution on all of us each year.

This article (from a writer in England who is recovering from tooth filling poisoning) is a great example of the kind of mis-information cloaked as a PSA which we have to constantly guard against being spread as truth.

To merely say it is "over the top" does it an injustice.

It must be read to be "appreciated".

(Please try to contain both your laughter and your lunch)

I never knew being poisoned by tooth fillings caused brain-damage

to such an extent but here's the proof!
